Registered designs protect
the outward appearance of an article, rather than providing
protection for the underlying principle or idea. Design registrations
are a cost effective way of obtaining protection for new consumer
products.
We prepare and file applications to register designs both
in Malaysia and throughout the world.
We also advise regarding validity and infringement of third
party design registrations and deal with maintenance, assignment,
licensing and litigation.
Examples of industrial design / copyright: furniture, carpet
design, containers, decorative hardware, fabric design,
jewellery, shoes, clothing accessories, car accessories, packaging,
pottery, toys.
A Bread Bowl To Contain Soup
Novelty is Adastra's bread and butter and Adastra looked at novel ways to protect a piece of bread in the shape of a bowl to contain soup. While other agents couldn't find a way to protect this interesting use of bread, Adastra decided to register the unique bread bowl as an industrial design which was approved, proof of Adastra's novel approach to protecting intellectual property rights.
The company which produced the bread bowl then went on to open 6 restaurants in 6 months, confident that its unique method of serving soup would be protected.
