His philosophy ever since starting up Adastra has been to provide clients with a one-stop center that offers practical solutions at an affordable price. With this simple philosophy, he has nurture a formidable team at the firm which he leads today on a day to day basis.
Mohan K graduated with an honours degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom in 1996. He plunged into the field of intellectual property and trained at some of the largest intellectual property firms in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia for 9 years before breaking out on his own.
His experience at the big city firms taught him that clients needed more than just a big name to represent them and sought to provide them with genuine and personalized service.
He has gained the trust of his clients by identifying and analyzing their concerns and effectively communicating to them what to do and what not to do as the product emerges from a concept in their minds to full blown commercialization. He is also well versed in IP litigation and is familiar with foreign prosecutions.
His fields of specialization are electronics and electromechanical engineering and he has gained a reputation as a software patentability advocate.
Yan Pei Chun, BSc Electronics & Computational Physics
Senior Patent Specialist Yan has close to a decade of experience in patent and trademark related matters. Prior to joining Adastra in 2005, Yan gained extensive familiarity and knowledge with ISO 9002 certification, during her early career as a Quality Service Executive at one of the most renowned manufacturing companies in Malaysia .
Yan is able to advise on patent strategies to enhance Adastra's clients' IP portfolio both within Malaysian and overseas through the PCT application process. She has close to a decade of experience in patent drafting and patent prosecution matters in Malaysia , Europe, Australia , China and South East Asia .
Yan's area of specialization is in the fields of electronics, integrated circuits, software and mechanical engineering.
Elina Maszura Isa, BSc Biotechnology
Patent Drafting Specialist
Elina obtained her degree in 2002 and started working in patent drafting and patent protection at a boutique IP firm shortly thereafter. With sufficient experience under her belt, she joined Adastra and focuses on patent prosecution and enforcement.
She has extensive experience in drafting patents for groundbreaking biological innovations in numerous fields ranging from genetic engineering to sustainable environmental technologies.
Elina's area of specialization is in the fields of biotechnology and biomedical engineering.
Tai Yoke Yee, BSc Microbiology
Patent Drafting Specialist
Tai graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor Degree in Specialized Microbiology. At ADASTRA, Tai applies her extensive knowledge in microbiology by means of drafting, particularly biology based inventions. Her keen interest in both technical and legal aspects of inventions has led her to indulge further in the Intellectual Property field, and thus landed her a career in Patents with ADASTRA. Apart from drafting, Tai handles prosecution matters for a variety of clients.
Tai's area of expertise is in microbiology and biochemistry.
Noor Aziah Yahaya Luddin, LLB (Hons)
Legal Advisor and Trademark Specialist
Aziah Yahaya is a practicing lawyer and overseas legal support for Adastra's clients. She is a former partner of Ram Rais & Associates and has more than 10 years experience serving as counsel in local and international trademark disputes.
She has advised extensively on the most effective way in exploiting trademarks and trademark and copyright enforcement and prosecution. She is also well versed in preparing business agreements including licensing and registered user agreements.
Ezarina Yaakub
Trademark Assistant
Ezarina specializes in trademark searches and filing of trademark applications and works closely with the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office. She also works with an extensive network of foreign trademark agents to manage foreign trademark filings.
Zaffan Yassin, BLS (Hons)
IP and Grants Specialist
Zaffan graduated with an honours degree in law and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Intellectual Property Law.
He actively assists clients in securing funding from the relevant government agencies in order that they are able to commercially exploit their IP rights.
Zaffan is well versed in both patents and trademarks and other intellectual property matters having worked at two IP firms in Kuala Lumpur prior to joining Adastra. He is experienced in managing IP portfolios of large multinational clients such as Interdigital, Honda, Sanofi Aventis and General Electric.
Zaffan's area of expertise is in mechanical, electronics and electrical engineering and information technology.
Justin Santiago, BAppSc (Hons), MBA, LLB(Hons)
Branding and Communications Consultant
Justin comes from a market research and consulting background and has worked for International Data Corporation, Frost & Sullivan and the Economist Intelligence Unit advising companies on their branding and strategic positioning in the marketplace.
Justin assists companies map out their overall strategy and communicate their product and service message clearly to the marketplace. His media experience is also useful in helping clients increase their reach through media and public relations campaigns.
Justin is also a registered patent agent has written numerous articles on IP related matters.
Fariq Halim

Born into the world of the diplomatic corps, Fariq has picked up tremendous insights into cross cultural diplomacy that he brings to Malaysia 's vibrant franchise scene.
Fariq started his career in public relations, advertising and events management before moving to franchising. He has advised companies such as Star Bookstore, Minda Optima, MMY Anggun, Vincci, Garant Mobel and Vista E-Shoppe.
He is actively sought after as a speaker by institutions such as the Malaysia Franchise Association (MFA) to give talks to potential franchisors and franchisees. He is also the Editor in Chief of the Asia Franchise & Business Opportunities magazine.
Jamaluddin Ghani Franchising Specialist
A 26 year veteran of the financial industry, Jamaluddin began his career in insurance with Prudential Assurance before moving into consumer banking with the UOB Group. Making a strategic transition from consumer banking to merchant banking, he went on to work for Utama Wardley Merchant Bank. Jamaluddin's career path had also led to his foray into starting his own wealth management firm under the name of Wealth Dynamics Consultancy.
Jamal understands what works and doesn't in business systems and processes and has a keen sense of spotting potential franchisors.
